We have an upright red Japanese Maple, and it has dead branches on it after winter frost damage. How can I promote new shoots from the tree?

Carefully prune out the damage back to a live, healthy bud/shoot. Have a soil nutrient analysis undertaken and amend the soil as appropriate for the species. Combine this with an application of mulch (e.g woodchips) around the tree to promote vitality. It may also be well to protect the tree with horticultural fleece during harsh winter weather to minimize this in future. Bartlett Tree Experts can undertake all forms of plant health care and can provide a quotation for analysis and amendments if you require. You can make an appointment by clicking here.
