Now is the time to prepare for winter!

Evergreens may need to be wrapped in twine to prevent breakage and crown deformity. Evergreens with upright growth habits and multiple stems such as boxwood and arborvitae are most susceptible to this damage. Large trees with weakly attached branches may require pruning and installation of supplemental support cables to reduce the risk of failure, especially during severe weather.

Fall Fertilisation

Tree and shrub roots usually grow during the fall. Root systems store reserves of starch that will become active energy in the spring when shoot growth, leafing and flowering occur. Fertilisation during this time will maintain soil nutrient levels and increase root production, promoting new growth in the spring.

Getting your trees ready for winter!

Winter is coming! If your trees look “thick” and have over extended limbs this is the time to schedule winter pruning work. Pruning can greatly reduce tree damage and maybe even property damage. This can help reduce disease and insect issues. Contact your local Arborist Representative to have an assessment done on your trees to see if they are in shape for winter.

Identifying Hazardous Tree Conditions

When there is a hanging branch or crack in a tree, it's easy to see that a problem exists. However, some issues are more difficult to detect. Simple solutions can make a big difference. Pruning can lessen branch weight and wind resistance. Cables and brace rods can also be effective in helping to limit branch movement and protect trees.

Fall Pest Management Treatment

Pest management continues to be a major focus during the fall season. Horticultural oils can be applied to trees and shrubs to help suppress scales and other overwintering pests. Spider mites become active especially on conifers and can damage plants during warm winter periods. Properly timed treatments can protect trees.
