Recognition for Efforts in Protecting Philadelphia’s Trees

The Pennsylvania Urban and Community Forestry Council has presented the Community Forestry Award to Bartlett Tree Experts. This award recognizes Bartlett’s involvement in helping to restore the greater Philadelphia area’s urban forest and protect local trees through the Tree Tenders and TreeVitalize programmes.

To educate residents in the five-county region on the proper planting and care of trees, Bartlett arborists donate their time as teachers of the free Tree Tenders courses. The “Tree Tenders” can then apply that knowledge in the care of trees and shrubs in their own communities.

Josh Morin, Local Manager of Bartlett’s location in Bala Cynwyd, believes that education is crucial to the health of trees in our area. “When we can help people understand how important trees are to our environment and teach them how to make trees thrive, we play a real role in improving the quality of life in the places where we live and work.”

Bartlett employees also participate in TreeVitalize, where they assist in restoring tree cover, educating citizens about planting trees and helping local governments understand the need to protect urban trees. These employees volunteer in their own neighborhoods, facilitate the planting of new trees and help revitalize urban areas by offering free stump grinding services. Bartlett also works closely with the Pennsylvania Horticulture Society in the care of trees throughout the region. “The Tree Tenders and TreeVitalize programmes are doing great work here,” says Morin. “We’re proud to be involved with groups like these, that share our love of trees and realize the important role trees play in a healthy community.”
