You have a fungal leaf spot on your Red Maple. This is very common on Red Maple and is typically not detrimental to tree health. It can be sprayed with fungicide treatments but is typically not needed. If the problem persisits you can make an appointment with one of our professionals.
This is the ideal time of year to prune cherry trees, however the dry conditions will induce stress so good irrigation is important before and after pruning works. Removing a third is however excessive and will result in dense, vigorous regrowth which will ultimately exacerbate the original issue and look unsightly. I would suggest a much smaller reduction. The smaller tree is a vitex and the slightly larger tree is a Shantung maple. Both get the same treatment for the first year or so. Plant them in a pot outside making sure their roots are level with the top of the soil - don’t bury them at the bottom of the pot and pile on a bunch of potting soil. You don’t have to water every day but to make sure the soil doesn’t get completely dry. After the root systems have developed you can plant them in the ground.
